FACES OF WAR

FOWlogo

Today the United States is fighting two wars — in Afghanistan and Iraq.  To give an idea of the cost of war The Brookings Institute’s Iraq Index data shows that there are over 100,000 soldiers from the United States serving in the war in Iraq.  Over 4,000 American soldiers, with over half of the casualties under the age of 25, have lost their lives.  Over 30,000 soldiers have been wounded and 30% of the soldiers develop serious mental health problems within three to four months of returning home.

The FACES OF WAR speakers are soldiers or loved ones of soldiers who have served and returned from war.  The speakers’ powerful lecture provides the opportunity for the audience to understand the realities of war from the perspective of their peers.   The FACES OF WAR lecture series is unique because it provides a personal and candid look at how war affects our generation.  The FACES OF WAR lecture includes the speaker sharing his or her story and the impact the war has had on their life.  The lecture includes an informative conversation on the facts and figures pertaining to specific issues within the war.  The lecture always leaves time for questions and answers creating a dialogue with the students.  The FACES OF WAR lecture is providing valuable and meaningful information and sharing the emotional and eye-opening realities of their peers who have bravely served our country.

The FACES OF WAR lecture and campaign is encouraging young people, regardless of their political views, to put aside their differences and come together to be educated and inspired.

Hope’s Voice provides each school with handouts for their event, the GET FEEDBACK report collected from surveys from their event and a glossy and eye-catching promotional kit that includes multi-media and print materials from the FACES OF WAR campaign.
